Moon Magic

Who’s set off the Alien Intruder Alarm? 17th September 2011

Bobby the work experience astronought!

Moon Magic – This morning the school hall became a space shuttle, the audience became the passengers on a thrill packed trip to the Moon.

We had exploding robots, asteroid storms and strange plant life!

Once again we said thank you to our good friends, the Magic Carpet Theatre group.

Every year we appreciate their comedy and creativity when we begin the school year off with a superb production.

This year was no exception - Moon Magic was hilarious!

Funny tricks, silly faces, daft voices and clever illusions - Moon Magic had it all and the children were laughing out loud all the way through.

There was also a strong element of audience participation.  Poor Mrs English and Mrs Newton had to endure Bobby sitting on their knees.

Captain Marshmallow (AKA Jon Marshall) also happened to invite some children up to help with the crash landing on the moon.

They chose a little star - Rebecca.  Rebecca was not in the least put off by the hundreds of children in the audience - in fact she quickly established herself as one of the cast with her clever ad libs and addressed the audience with the raw natural talent Simon Cowell has been looking for for years!

There was not a dry eye in the house amongst the staff - several female teachers had to reapply their mascara!

All in all the morning was a hoot but the children didn't just have fun.  Research shows that when children are engaged in a story it sticks in their memory and can be used as a stimulus for futher learning.

The story had elements of the science and geography curriculum but was mainly an excellent springboard for story telling, writing and further reading.  Some of the children may now be inspired to try their hand at making their own robots, special effects or space ships.

The Magic Carpet Theatre group has been an established group and friend of schools for many years.  Learn more about them from their website, click here.
